Giving your engine the care it deserves
Most of us assume that all we need to put in our tanks is the fuel we buy at the pumps. But we may not be aware that fuel quality can vary significantly, and that poor quality fuel coupled with modern driving, such as short urban journeys, can cause a build-up of deposits in the fuel system. These deposits can impact your BMW's performance, as well as shorten the lifespan of the engine and fuel system components.

What is BMW Fuel Additive?
BMW Fuel Additive is designed to clean away the deposits that form in your BMW’s fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers while you are driving. Used regularly, they work as a preventative tool, cleaning and maintaining your fuel system and prolonging the life of your engine.
What are the effects of poor fuel quality?
Poor fuel can cause the following problems:
- Loss of engine power
- Rough idling
- Increased fuel consumption
- Higher exhaust emissions
- Reduced engine lifespan
- Failure of the emissions element in an MOT test
-
-
What are the benefits of Fuel Additive?
Using BMW Fuel Additive provides a number of benefits, some of which include:
- Cost-effective solution to prolonging engine life.
- Cleans and maintains the fuel system of your car.
- Removes deposits on intake valves, fuel injectors and combustion chambers.
- Can improve fuel consumption* and engine performance.
- Compatible with all BMW petrol and diesel engines.
*mpg is also dependent on your driving style and the age of the vehicle.

Why should I use BMW Fuel Additives?
These are the only Fuel Additives rigorously tested and approved by BMW. Used regularly, they will clean and maintain the fuel system of your car, resulting in better fuel consumption and engine performance.
-
How often should I use Fuel Additives?
BMW suggests using one bottle of additive to one full tank of fuel. There is no set frequency based on miles driven, as each owner will achieve a different mpg according to their driving style.
-
Will BMW Fuel Additives harm my car?
The technology used in BMW's Fuel Additives is fully compatible with the additives already found in some fuel sold at petrol stations. Using them with fuel that already contains a detergent additive will not harm your engine.

AdBlue
AdBlue is a vital additive for certain BMW models* as part of the environmentally-friendly EU6 regulations to significantly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. A selection of BMW models are already fitted with a NOx Storage Catalyst that absorbs nitrogen oxide. For the models that do not have this, an alternative system, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is used in order to reduce their NOx emissions. AdBlue is used for those models fitted with an SCR system.
*The main BMW models that have SCR systems are the BMW 5 Series and BMW X5 models, however other models may have the SCR system fitted. Please check with your local BMW Centre for more information.
-
What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a liquid solution of urea, and when it meets a hot exhaust system it releases ammonia, which is a catalyst to a chemical reaction that converts NOx into harmless water vapour and nitrogen.
AdBlue is poured into a small dedicated tank into the car and, when full, will last for approximately 9000 miles. You can easily fill it yourself, but we recommend having it filled by our expert BMW trained technicians to ensure it’s done accurately, while you can sit back and relax, knowing that your BMW is in safe hands.
-
How to tell when your AdBlue tank needs filling
BMW’s that require AdBlue will have a warning symbol appear on their dash, informing you when the AdBlue is approaching the need of a refill. It’s important to adhere to the symbol information, as letting the AdBlue tank run empty will stop your engine from starting once it has been turned off if there is no AdBlue present.
-
-
How to fill your AdBlue tank
If filling your tank yourself, check your BMW to see where the AdBlue tank is, as some models have the tank by engine compartment, and others by the fuel tank. An AdBlue refill is available from all Barons & Chandlers BMW Centres.
