BMW Air Conditioning Service
Maintain the perfect climate and breathe fresh air all year-round
To ensure peak performance, your BMW’s Air Conditioning system needs to be regularly serviced - just like any other important system in your vehicle. Air conditioning doesn’t just keep you cool in the summer, it also demists your windows all year-round, as well as providing clean, fresh air inside your BMW. The intelligent BMW Air Conditioning system filters out pollen and dust that you could otherwise be breathing in.
How does air conditioning work?
Your BMW air conditioning system pulls air in from outside of the car or recirculates the air in your car’s cabin. When this happens, the air conditioning system runs the air over vanes that contain really cold air conditioning fluid. Without a fully functioning air conditioning system, you will find it very difficult to keep your windows demisted, which is why regular maintenance is recommended. If there are any issues with your BMW’s air-con system, the likelihood is that it can be resolved quickly.
What is regassing?
Air-con regassing is the process of removing the old refrigerant gas from your BMW’s air conditioning system and replacing it with new gas. By replacing the refrigerant gas, it will enable your air-con to run cold once again. If your BMW’s air conditioning system isn’t blowing as cold as it should, regassing is the first option you should explore.
The most common problem is needing your air conditioning regassing, which can be done at your local Barons & Chandlers Service Centre. Our specialists can regas your air conditioning in less than an hour, so you can get on with the rest of your day. If the issue is more complicated than needing the refrigerant gas replaced, our dedicated BMW-technicians will take you through the next steps before carrying out any work.
Why should you service your air conditioning?
There is often a misconception that air conditioning is just a tool for keeping cool in the warmer seasons. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually crucial to use it regularly throughout the year to keep it working effectively so that the air in your car is filtered, preventing mould and bacteria growth. Constant use throughout the year will also prevent the seals around the system from becoming brittle, which can lead to the refrigerant gas leaking and making the whole system a lot less efficient.
However, to ensure optimum effectiveness and efficiency, the system needs to be serviced regularly. The microfilters have to be checked and replaced, and if necessary, the refrigerant gas will be checked and if any leaks or contamination is detected, a re-gas will be performed by one of our BMW-trained technicians.
How often should you service your air conditioning?
We recommend servicing your air conditioning once every two years. Many people choose to wait until it stops blowing out cold air. However, this is not a good idea as having poorly-functioning air conditioning will make it more difficult to demist your windows in the winter. It could also make your BMW’s engine work harder, which uses more fuel. So it’s not worth putting off your BMW’s air conditioning maintenance.
