A-Class Saloon Revealed
  • Its design, while familiar, is still very handsome. The stylish saloon uses the same cues from the A-Class hatchback, while drawing heavy inspiration from the CLA. It’s also the slipperiest Mercedes yet; it has a drag coefficient of just 0.22. Stretching out to 4,549 mm, the A-Class Saloon is shorter than the CLA (4,630 mm), but its wheelbase is longer (2,729 mm vs. 2,700 mm). Wheel options range from 17 to 19 inches, depending on trim. It is worth noting that this is not a replacement for the CLA and that a new CLA following the style if the CLS is on the distant horizon.

The A-Class Saloon will be available in two different flavours at launch: an A200 and an A180 D. The latter will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 115 bhp and 192 lb-ft of torque. The A200 model has a 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 161 bhp and 184 lb-ft of torque, both coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Inside, the A-Class Saloon adopts new tech. The same MBUX infotainment system from the A-Class hatch and Sprinter carry over. It features a high-resolution widescreen cockpit and touchscreen media display with augmented reality capabilities. Mercedes calls it the most-advanced display yet.

  • Buyers can choose from two screen sizes: either a pair of standard seven-inch touchscreens or an optional set of 10.25-inch displays. A head-up display and intelligent voice control is standard through MBUX aren't the only advancements. The A-Class Saloon now features a suite of safety systems. The same Intelligent Drive setup from the S-Class carries over, giving the A-Class the ability to drive "semi-autonomously in certain conditions."

Improved camera and radar systems allow it to ‘see’ up to 500 metres. Automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist are also included as part of the optional package, with the ability to automatically change its speed for upcoming corners, intersections, and roundabouts.

Expect to this new addition to the A-Class model line in 2019.
