Grand California makes it's debut at NEC

An entrance worth talking about

When you’re showing off the California’s bigger brother, you need a stage to match. The Grand California made its UK debut at the country’s biggest showcase of caravans, motorhomes and camper vans in the country – the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show 2019. Over six days, there was an essence of adventure bought to the NEC Birmingham with a beach-themed stand, giving visitors the chance to explore our camper vans and talk to the people behind our products. 
 
 

• Displaying true camper van culture

• If we can’t display our camper vans at the beach, we’ll bring the beach to our camper vans! Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ beach cabana stand perfectly caught the spirit of freedom and adventure that defines the Volkswagen California. Visitors could rest in retro deckchairs and discover just how comfy our campers’ lounges are as kids hid in the Grand California 600’s over cab bed and played with beach balls between the vehicles. 

• Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles staff were on hand to answer visitors’ questions and show off the camper van range. Kate Thompson, Head of Press and Public Relations at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: “We were delighted by the number of visitors who came to our stand and took the time to look around our products. Volkswagen camper vans have long been synonymous with freedom and adventure and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed talking to owners and future customers about their travel plans and dreams.”

• The Grand California is the ideal vehicle for road trips, holidays and discovering hidden gems. As the latest in a long line of legendary Volkswagen camper vans, it was always going to attract attention. Visitors came from all over the UK to see the impressive all-new motorhome on its UK debut, discover the innovative design features and experience the factory high-quality fit and finish expected from a Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle. 

• You shouldn’t lose out on home comforts when you’re on the road. The Grand California’s intelligent design features keep you comfortable wherever you are. The external temperature-controlled shower is perfect for cleaning bikes and dogs, and built-in storage keeps things tidy. When you’re on the move, cutting-edge safety features including Park Assist, City Emergency Braking, Rear Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor help to keep everyone safe. 

• “Very impressive, they’ve done a great job”

• Camper vans are built and bought to make happy memories, so it was wonderful to hear so many visitors’ enthusiastic feedback: “the Grand California is absolutely amazing. It looks stunning, the storage in there is great.” Whether it’s the separate bathroom with clever space-saving design, the airy and open feel of the interior or its quality fit and finish, owners will benefit throughout the Grand California from decades of Volkswagen’s experience designing camper vans. 

• Throughout the show, families exploring the Grand California loved the interior – with an eye on the future, one visitor to the stand even said “the kids are looking forward to it, they’re already thinking about their YouTube channels!” There’s entertainment inside for them too, as the living area’s Bluetooth speakers let you soundtrack the holiday using your mobile device. Wherever you take it, the Grand California is a return ticket to unforgettable times. 

• “I came here to look at Volkswagen vans. I have had a look at some of the others while I’ve been here. They’re not Volkswagen, so for me, they don’t work.”

• A more compact way to camp

  There’s more to our campers than the Grand California. The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles stand also gave visitors the chance to see the California Beach and Ocean. Complete with elevating roof, swivel seats and room to sleep four, the California offers an ideal leisure vehicle that’s compact enough to be used every day. Opt for the California Ocean and you’ll also get a wardrobe as well as a fitted kitchen equipped with stainless sink and stove unit, built-in storage and cool box for a tasty dinner wherever the road takes you.
