Toyota GB Welcomes Spear Programme Trainees
  • Volunteers at Toyota GB welcomed a group of trainees from the Spear programme to the company’s Surrey headquarters this week, giving them an insight into the world of work and the skills they can develop to build a successful career.

The Spear programme supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across London, helping them gain the confidence and abilities they need to secure employment. It also helps them with practical resources such as writing a CV, interview techniques and personal presentation.

The company visit is an integral part of the programme, giving trainees the chance to experience a professional environment, meet people already on the career ladder and hear about what the business does. It is an important opportunity for young people, some of whom struggle to imagine themselves being successful in the workplace, to find out about the real world of work and the opportunities that are available. Following the visit, the trainees are given feedback on specific areas where they have done well and where and how they might improve.

Toyota GB is an established supporter of Spear, hosting company visits twice a year. Its support reflects Toyota’s core philosophy of giving people opportunities for personal development throughout their career. Robin Giles, Toyota Director with responsibility for corporate social responsibility, said: “We are keen to show that opportunities exist for everyone if they can develop the right skills and mindset. By encouraging the Spear trainees and showing them what they can achieve, we hope we can help them make the first crucial steps towards employment and rewarding career.”
