Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles gives Veterans a new lease of life.

Blind veterans UK have recently added 6 new Transporters to their fleet of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

• The fleet consists of 25 Transporters, two Caddy’s and two Crafter minibuses. These are used to transport members between their residential house and the two centres in Brighton, Sussex and Llandudno, Wales.

  The UK based Charity helps the blind and vision impaired ex-service member regain their independence and discover a new lease of life after losing their sight.
  Since starting up in 1915, the charity have helped over 15,000 ex-service men and women who have lost their sight.

  This is where the Volkswagen Transporter comes in. The Transporter Shuttle was chosen for its outstanding comfort and spacious interior which allows the charity to transport seven veterans at one time.
  The vast range of safety technology such as the Front Assist and City Emergency braking, which come as standard in the Volkswagen Transporter, ensures the journey will be worry and stress-free.
  Another 14 of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles that the Blind Veterans UK have, all feature tip and fold seats which facilitate wheelchair access. This has increased from just 3 wheelchair conversions back in 2016.

  In addition to this, the charity have also chosen to use BlueMotion Technology across its fleet as this offers higher fuel efficiency for a full value for money package which is always a key requirement in the charity sector.

  Blind Veterans UK’s work ranges by helping veterans relearn vital life skills and providing them with the tools they need to be independent in their own homes, by offering new learning, training and recreational opportunities as well as providing long-term nursing, residential and respite care.

  Gary Norman, Operations Lead at Blind Veterans UK said: “Many of our veterans depend on us to get to and from our centres so a reliable fleet is an essential part of our service. We also believe it’s important to provide our drivers with a pleasant working environment so additional features, such as air conditioning and cruise control, are an added bonus for us.”
