CUPRA Wins at German Design Awards 2019
    • The CUPRA e-Racer wins its second international design award at the German Design Awards 2019
    • The world’s first all-electric touring car took the top spot in the award’s Conceptual Transportation category
    • Judged by an international jury, the award highlights pioneering contributions to the design landscape

The CUPRA e-Racer Concept, the world’s first all-electric touring car, has continued its prize-winning streak, taking the top honour in the Conceptual Transportation category of the influential 2019 German Design Awards.

The awards are organised by the German Design Council and judged by a highly esteemed international jury. They identify and honour the best design achievements across numerous industries.

“We are proud the CUPRA e-Racer continues to be honoured, recognising the hard work and dedication of everyone who worked on the all-electric touring car.” said Alejandro Mesonero, Director of Design at CUPRA/SEAT. “This award highlights how truly pioneering the project is and the importance it has.”

    The future of performance

The e-Racer is not only cleaner and environmentally friendlier, but its performance is even more impressive than a traditional racing car. Powered by four single gear electric motors and a liquid cooled 65kWh battery pack, the e-Racer produces peak power of 500kW and 960Nm of torque. That means the all-electric touring car can reach 100km/h from a standing start in just 3.2 seconds, and 200km/h in only 8.2 seconds, and all this almost in silence.

The CUPRA e-Racer has been designed to take the racing experience to the next level: the front is designed in order to minimise drag, the air curtains have been placed both above the CUPRA logo and on both sides of the bumper. The side carbon fibre panels attached to the front doors assist in the air flow along the body and a long wheel base is design to house the heart of the e-Racer: its racing batteries.

CUPRA’s objective is to redefine the future of racing: creating a new, cleaner and more efficient way of competing, where technology and connectivity play a key role. The 100% electric CUPRA e-Racer, anticipates this future, opening the door to a new driving experience as well as to a promising competition between fully electric touring cars in 2020 with the new ETCR series.
