An MOT test is required for vehicles three years or older on an annual basis. If you have a new BMW and are not sure when your MOT is due, the time of registration will give you a date for when you need to get its first MOT test. All vehicles must have a valid MOT certificate, which lasts for 12 months.
When your BMW needs its first MOT
Your BMW will receive thorough tests and checks to make sure that vital parts meet the legal standard in order to make your vehicle roadworthy. Get your BMW MOT test up to a day before the expiry date to keep the same renewal date, or get it up to one month before the current certificate is due to expire to allow time for any possible repairs to be carried out.
As the vehicle’s owner, you are responsible for making sure that your BMW is examined by a trained professional every 12 months. If you fail to provide a valid MOT certificate, your insurance will become invalid and you could be fined up to £1000. It is illegal to drive without a valid MOT certificate and insurance cover.
