How often do I need to MOT my Mercedes?

All vehicles that are three years old or more must have an MOT test once every 12 months by law. It is against the law to drive without a valid MOT certificate. Find out when your Mercedes-Benz is due for its first MOT by looking for its date of registration.

When your Mercedes needs its first MOT

Every vehicle is required to undergo a series of thorough tests to ensure vital components meet the legal standards set by the government. You have the option to keep your MOT expiry date the same or you can change your renewal date. Get your MOT up to a day before it’s due to expire to keep the same renewal date, or you can get your MOT up to 30 days before your current MOT certificate is due to expire.

You are responsible for making sure that your Mercedes-Benz is MOT tested by a trained professional on an annual basis. If you are caught driving without a valid MOT certificate, you could face a fine of up to £1000. Your insurance will also become invalid from your MOT expiry date, and it is illegal to drive without insurance and a valid MOT certificate.

How long does an MOT take?

Generally, an MOT test can take between 45 and 60 minutes, but it is always better to allow for the full hour before collecting your Mercedes-Benz. There are a few considerations that you should think about before booking your MOT:
- Allow time for repairs, just in case your Mercedes-Benz was to fail its MOT
- If it does fail its MOT and is not covered by a valid MOT certificate, the test centre has a legal obligation to prevent you from driving away
