Very disappointing experience with Group 1 Shrewsbury – poor communication and questionable sales practices I had a very disappointing experience with Group 1 Shrewsbury. I enquired about a car I was genuinely interested in and arranged an appointment at their dealership, which was the closest Group 1 site to me. I travelled for an hour, only to discover that the car I wanted had already been sold the previous day. What makes this particularly frustrating is that I was contacted on the morning of my appointment, yet nobody mentioned that the car had been sold. Had I been told, I would have cancelled the appointment rather than wasting an hour travelling to the dealership. This showed a complete lack of consideration for my time. The car was actually located at another Group 1 site, with Shrewsbury being the most convenient dealership for me to visit. However, I was never informed of the £199 vehicle relocation fee when I initially enquired about the car. I would have expected any additional charges to be made clear from the outset, allowing me to make an informed decision before committing to an appointment. Things became even more confusing when the dealership checked the availability of the two cars I was interested in. I was told that both had been sold at exactly the same time, down to the millisecond. When I questioned this, the staff were unable to explain why they did call the other site however the reasons were questionable. I found this extremely unusual and was left questioning the accuracy of the information I was being given. Rather than helping me find a suitable alternative, the sales team tried to steer me towards another vehicle with significantly higher mileage and a much higher price. They also appeared far more interested in arranging finance, despite me making it perfectly clear that I wanted to pay cash. When I tried to negotiate the price of an alternative vehicle, I found them unhelpful and unwilling to engage in a reasonable discussion and mentioned profits and loss margins. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that the cars I was told had been sold have now reappeared on the market at a considerably higher price. I cannot say why this has happened, but given the circumstances, it raises legitimate questions about the sales tactics, information I was provided and how the vehicle was being advertised. I appreciate that cars can sell quickly, but basic communication, transparency and respect for customers' time should be the bare minimum. Overall, this was a thoroughly disappointing experience with Group 1 Shrewsbury. I felt my time was wasted, my requirements were ignored, and the focus was on selling me a more expensive vehicle through finance rather than helping me purchase the car I was actually interested in. My advice to other buyers is to confirm everything in writing before travelling. Make sure the specific vehicle is available, and ask about any additional charges before making an appointment. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this dealership and would be very reluctant to deal with Group 1 again.

Be careful. There was a very persistent effort to convince me that I should buy the car through a hire purchasing agreement. When I expressed scepticism I was told that I would have to be an idiot to turn down such a wonderful offer. When I asked for the total amount that I would be paying I was told that it was too complicated to calculate. This was despite us agreeing a deposit and a fixed interest rate on the loan. Eventually we bought the car outright. My advice is that if you do wish to buy a car from this dealership that you fix a price and agree any extras before entering into a conversation as to how the car was to be financed.

Pleasant experience and was left to look at the vehicles on my own. When I needed assistance it was there. The salesman that I dealt with (James Shutt), was excellent. Very professional and knew exactly what he was talking about.
