Our Driving Force: Meet Carl
Aftersales Manager
Driving performance, customer care and continuous improvement across CUPRA and SEAT Ipswich. A 33‑year journey from apprentice technician to aftersales leader.
Leading a Growing, High‑Performing Aftersales Team
As Aftersales Manager at Ipswich CUPRA/SEAT, Carl leads a dynamic team focused on delivering exceptional customer service and operational excellence. His role spans planning, performance management, and driving continuous improvement across the workshop and front-of-house teams.
A glimpse into a day for Carl…
"Planning and organisation are the pillars of the day."
Alongside a packed day of meetings with workshop, front-of-house and diagnostic technicians, Carl’s role ensures business-critical performance, customer carryovers, opportunities, and improvements are at the forefront of his objectives.
"We set objectives based on best-in-class – we don’t like fixed ceilings, we like to see how we can exceed! Teamwork and succession planning are key drivers with my team, they help us continually to strive to be better short-term and long-term.”
His passion for aftersales shines through his career journey…
Carl’s passion for aftersales started as an apprentice Volvo technician, then progressed through roles as Service Advisor, Aftersales Manager, and Aftersales Business Improvement Manager nationally, before becoming Aftersales Manager.
Over 33 years, he’s worked across premium brands like Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover.
Why Group 1?
"Myself and my team feel empowered to make changes to grow our business with effective support from HR, our Brand Director, and everyone in between. We’ve grown from 3 technicians when I joined to 10 at this point, and we can’t wait to welcome more technicians and aftersales colleagues as we grow and thrive."
His proudest achievement to date is…
"Being recognised as a top 10 dealer nationally, and representing the UK globally for CUPRA this year – along with recruiting some amazing individuals and seeing them grow."
Outside of work
Carl referees at semi-professional level and loves house/dance music, with a little bit of DJing in between.
“Family comes first for me, but its just as important to spend time for me and only me. Refereeing helps me switch off mentally for a while and have a much needed rest (and the great thing is, as a referee, I am never wrong!)”
At Group 1, we believe our people are our most important asset - the driving force behind everything we do.
