Our Driving Force: Meet Sarah
Head of Telephony
Determination, technical skills and advocacy for women in tech help shape Group 1’s IT future. A career built on discipline, curiosity and a drive to help people through technology.
Engineering Excellence: Inside Sarah Bloyce’s Career Journey
Sarah joined Group 1 in 2013, following a nine-year career in the military as a Radio Systems Engineer. Her role involved working on hybrid communications systems and vehicle maintenance - each military member was responsible for their own vehicle, giving Sarah hands-on experience with everything from batteries to diagnostics. Her transition into the automotive world was a natural progression, driven by her passion for technology and customer service.
“I’d never worked in automotive before, but I’d worked with vehicles my whole career. I wanted to be somewhere fast-paced, with people, and Group 1 offered that.”
Now working as a Telephony Network Engineer for Group 1, Sarah is responsible for everything phone-related across the business - from troubleshooting high-level system issues to designing architectural solutions and embracing new technologies like Zoom and contact centre platforms. Her love for problem-solving and helping people shines through in her work, as does her ability to interpret complex data and translate it into practical solutions.
Sarah brings a host of military skills…
Sarah’s military background equipped her with a toolkit of skills that are invaluable in her current role:
⏱️ Time efficiency and preparation
✅ Determination to find solutions
👩💼 Patience and crisis management
📈 Openness to change and innovation
These qualities have helped her thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, and she encourages others with similar backgrounds to consider careers in automotive and IT.
Leaving the ladder down for future female generations
Having spent her entire career in technically focused, male-dominated fields, Sarah is passionate about encouraging more women to pursue similar paths.
One piece of advice she wants younger women to hear is:
“Don’t feel like you don’t fit. There’s something for everyone - whether it’s data analysis, field engineering, or network design. Don’t lose your passion because someone tells you that you can’t do it.
Anything’s possible when you put your mind to it. We all feel time-poor, especially women - but don’t let that stop you. Make space for your goals, and don’t be afraid to speak up.”
Sarah believes that confidence and visibility are key. She’s a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, and she wants women to know that their voices and skills are not only welcome but needed.
Her family and passions outside of work
Sarah is a proud mum to two sons, aged 13 and 9, who share her love of technology and cars. Her husband, also a former military colleague, now coaches rugby - a sport that keeps the whole family active and connected.
After many years of being stationed away from her husband, across the UK and in Afghanistan, Sarah really values time with her loved ones.
Her favourite car? A 2006 VRS Skoda Octavia, bought during her military days in South Wales. It’s more than just a vehicle - it’s a memory of freedom, adventure, and the black mountains.
At Group 1, we believe our people are our most important asset - the driving force behind everything we do.
