Stephen Mochrie

Stephen started his career serving in the British Army, a lifelong dream since he was a young boy. When asked ‘what was your dream job when you were younger’, he said:

“To be in the British Army but to get to the rank of RSM in one of the greatest regiments in the world surpassed my wildest expectations. Would I have changed it? Not a chance!”

After 20 years serving for his country, Stephen has enjoyed an accomplished career in automotive, achieving many milestones along the way. He started as an used car sales executive in Scotland, and, much like the army, he worked his way up the ranks to where he is now – leading the team as Head of Business at VW Commercial Vehicles Manchester.

Reflecting on his journey, he shares one piece of advice to someone looking to work in his role, or for Group 1:

“Keep an open mind, be committed and always be ready to learn something every day. No two days are the same, expect a fresh challenge every day and deal with it professionally.”

“I have been mentoring colleagues for many years now, where I can share my vast knowledge and skills to get them to the next level in their career. I am always happy to lead from the front and my door is always open to help wherever required.”
