As proud supporters of the Motability Scheme, smart is committed to helping disabled people get on the road again. The Motability Scheme is a national charity that is dedicated to helping disabled people get more mobile and enjoy their freedom. An affordable way of getting back on the road, the scheme allows those with disabilities to lease a brand-new smart car once every three years in exchange for their government-funded mobility allowance. But that’s not all you can expect to benefit from. On the scheme, you are also entitled to comprehensive car insurance, full accident and breakdown cover, replacement tyres and windscreens and more. How the smart Motability Scheme works
Helping millions of people stay on the road for over 40 years, the scheme lets you exchange your mobility benefits for a three-year lease on a brand-new car. The scheme is simple, and it gives you the ability to keep your freedom and stay mobile on the road.
Simply choose the brand-new smart car you would like from a range of models, all at affordable prices. Our specially trained staff will help you throughout the whole process, making sure that you find the car that best suits you. Visit your local smart dealership for a test drive, and once you’re happy with the vehicle you’ve chosen, we’ll complete the order for you. It's easy!

Who is eligible for smart Motability?
You can utilise any of the following government funded mobility allowances towards a brand-new smart car:
- Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC)
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC of PIP)
The scheme is not exclusive to the driver if the claimant is under 16-years-of-age. Instead, their parent, guardian or carer can qualify on their behalf.

With hundreds of adaptations available on the Motability Scheme, from simple driving controls to person hoists for lifting wheelchair users, you can get back enjoying your freedom on the road. Designed to help your drive, get in or out of the car, or stow your wheelchair or scooter, adaptations can make a whole world of difference.
The simplest and most cost-effective way to arrange for your adaptations to be made is to take care of it at the same time as ordering your vehicle. This way, when your smart car is delivered it will have the adaptations already fitted, so you can get back on the road in no time at all. Some adaptations even come at no extra cost.
Our team of Motability specialists can help you establish what you find difficult with your current vehicle. Some issues can easily be solved by choosing the right model, such as an automatic gearbox for example. Our friendly team can work with you to find a vehicle that meets your individual motoring needs.
Adaptations are designed to make motoring easier and more comfortable. However, not all adaptations are suitable for every type of vehicle due to the compatibility of the car and the adaptation. It is important to bear in mind what adaptations you need before you choose your smart car.
