The Motability Scheme offers hundreds of adaptations, which range from fitted simple driving controls to person hoists for wheelchair users. We want you to enjoy your motoring experience stress-free and the adaptations available can help you do just that. Whether you need help to drive, get in or out of the car, or stow your wheelchair, there is an adaptation that has the solution you need.
When it comes to arranging for adaptations to be made to your vehicle, the easiest and most cost-effective way is to sort it out at the same time you place an order for your vehicle. This way your BMW is delivered with your adaptations already fitted, so you can get back to having your freedom on the road. Some adaptations even come at no extra cost.
Adaptations on the Motability Scheme are designed to make motoring easier and more comfortable. However, not all adaptations are suitable for every type of vehicle due to the compatibility of the car and the adaptation. So, it’s important to bear in mind what adaptations you need before you choose your BMW.
Here are a list of adaptations that you could consider to help get you back on the road:
Adaptations to consider
|Limited mobility or control in your legs||Mechanical hand controls, electronic accelerators, steering aids and pedal guards|
|Limited mobility in your right hand||Mechanical hand controls or left foot accelerators|
|Limited strength in you upper body||Steering aids, remote control devices, easy release handbrakes and electronic accelerators|
|Wheelchair or scooter is too heavy to lift or stow||Car boot or rooftop hoists|
|Difficulty transferring from wheelchair to the car||Swivel seats, person hoists or tip-up plates|
This won't take long...

Hundreds of adaptations are available on the Motability Scheme, ranging from simple driving controls to person hoists that lift wheelchair users into a standard car. Designed to make your motoring experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, the adaptations available can help you drive, get in or out of the car, or stow your wheelchair or scooter.
Not every car is suitable for adaptations, so before making a final decision on which car to have, we recommend discussing whether you would require any adaptations with our Motability specialists. If you require any adaptations, they will be able to advise you on the suitability of each vehicle and help find the car that meets your individual requirements.
