20 years of RS 6

20 years, four generations, one spectacular car – the Audi RS 6 just keeps getting better.

This year we celebrate the 20^th birthday of the Audi fan-favourite, and our Group 1 Audi Heads of Business’ go-to car, the RS 6. Combining impressive performance with outstanding everyday usability, the Audi RS 6 has been setting the tone for high-performance station wagons for decades and the latest generation is no exception.

Its success stems from a basic concept of double-charged engine with all-wheel drive technology, which has been at the heart of every generation of this model since its conception back in 2002. Staying true to its heritage, the latest edition of the RS 6, features a 4-litre biturbo, 600 PS, with 800 Nm of torque. However, for the first time in its history, the model is supported by a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which seeks to improve its efficiency even further. Although it is a bit heavier, the RS 6 Avant races to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a brisk 3.6 seconds; and it only needs twelve seconds to reach 200 km/h (124 mph). Plus, it now features Dynamic Ride Control suspension as seen in other Audi models which ensures first class driving dynamics.

What’s more, the Audi RS 6’s unmistakeable design immediately identifies it as something extraordinary, and not your normal A6. The roof, front doors, and tailgate are the only things that the RS 6 Avant shares with the A6 Avant base model, whilst everything else has been specifically manufactured to give this powerhouse station wagon its own look and feel – including increasing its width by a staggering 8cm.

Its safe to say that despite its age, the Audi RS 6 continues to go from strength to strength. Whilst the Audi Sport team proceed to adapt and develop this remarkable model with each generation, adding innovative features and typical Vorsprung engineering enhancements, its trademark features of pioneering performance and exceptional practicality will always remain.
