Audi colleagues experience the future!

Earlier this month, Audi colleagues from around the UK travelled to snow-bound Munich to experience the new Audi e-tron and its futuristic technology first hand. Our Customer Insight and Divisional Analyst, Charlotte, was one of a number of representatives on the trip from Essex & M25 Audi and here she tells us all about her experience and what the e-tron has in store for us when it arrives in the Spring.

• Ingenious, contemporary and avant-garde, the brand new Audi e-tron quattro is an absolute game-changer when it comes to both BEVs and SUVs.

   

  Imagine a hoard of raving Audi enthusiasts heading through Munich airport towards a stunning galaxy blue launch edition of Audi’s first ever BEV; the e-tron quattro, waiting for us in the lobby. Now imagine how bright-eyed those same Audi enthusiasts were when they were told they were being let loose around the snowy German city in their own e-tron for almost six hours. That image you have in your head, of a group of hard-worked Audi employees from centres all over the UK looking like kids in a sweet shop, was exactly how they stayed for the next 48 hours.

  Our endeavour around Munich was an amazing opportunity to simulate ‘real life’ driving, a concept that would shake BEV non-believers to their very core and, quite honestly, there were a fair few of them among us to begin with. As we proceeded along the Autobahn our concerns were soon eased as we realised the range was a lot more forgiving than we thought. We drove for 5 hours before we had to plug-in, which was a lot longer than we thought we’d last which was pleasantly surprising.

• Recuperation

  Another cool feature on the Audi e-tron that aids with battery life is the recuperation technology that we got to test on a tight-cornered race track. We had to aim for a time of 38 seconds start to finish without touching the brakes, but rather let the recuperation settings govern the speed and control of the car on the narrow corners. This was such an amazing insight into what the e-tron can do, and something I’ve personally never seen done to such a high standard.

• Virtual Door Mirrors

  Another thing you’re probably curious about are the virtual door-mirrors that seem to be the talk of the town right now. These amazing new pieces of technology have heaters to stop them misting up or freezing, as well as automatic brightness adjustment and the ability to zoom in and out. These definitely took some time to get used to, especially not being able to lean forward or back to adjust your side view, but once you were familiar with looking ever so slightly lower than usual, you realise just how brilliant these cameras are.

  I could go on and on about the amazing features and exciting secrets we uncovered about Audi’s first ever all-electric car whilst away in Germany, but you can all find out for yourselves very, very soon as the release date draws ever closer! This car is unbelievably cutting-edge and upon release will cause the most amazing commotion in automotive that we absolutely cannot wait for!
